The world of motion design is about to get a whole lot more exciting with the upcoming DEMO Fest 2027. This unique festival, founded by Studio Dumbar/DEPT® and Global, is a celebration of creativity and community, showcasing the very best in motion design on public screens worldwide.
The Rise of Motion Design
Motion design has become an integral part of our daily lives, from train stations to shopping streets, and its impact is only growing. DEMO Festival has been at the forefront of this movement, showcasing how this art form can transform our urban landscapes.
A Festival Like No Other
What makes DEMO truly special is its format. For a full 24 hours, the festival takes over advertising spaces in cities, turning them into a non-commercial, curated showcase of motion design. It's a bold statement, replacing ads with experimental, artistic, and playful digital works. Last year's Cities Edition saw this initiative expand globally, with screens in 15 cities across Europe and North America transformed into a synchronized, worldwide stage.
Collaborating for Impact
The success of DEMO is a collaborative effort. Digital-out-of-home partners like Global, blowUP media, Adtrackmedia, Warexpo, and NEORT have all offered their screen spaces, creating a powerful and coordinated presence for the festival. This year, screens in major cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Tokyo will be part of this unique exhibition.
Open to All
One of the most exciting aspects of DEMO is its open call, inviting designers of all backgrounds and experience levels to submit their work. Whether you're a student or a seasoned professional, DEMO provides a platform to push the boundaries of non-commercial work and showcase your talent. Last year, the festival received an incredible response, with over 5,000 submissions from nearly 2,000 designers across 90 countries.
Curating Excellence
The selected works are curated by a talented team, including Liza Enebeis, Connor Campbell, Tim Rodenbröker, Koos Breen, and Yonk. Each edition has a thematic focus, highlighting trends and new developments in motion design. From 'Stranger Things' to 'Algorithmic Adventures', these categories provide a unique lens to explore the diverse world of motion design.
A Platform for Exchange
Beyond the screens, DEMO is a hub for learning and discussion. With talks, workshops, and guided tours, the festival brings designers, studios, and the public together to reflect on the future of motion design and its role in public spaces. It's a celebration of the art form, a space to inspire and be inspired, and a reminder that motion design has the power to unite and engage communities.
DEMO Fest 2027 is a testament to the growing relevance and impact of motion design. It's an opportunity for designers to showcase their talent on a global stage and for the public to experience motion design in a whole new light. Personally, I think it's a brilliant initiative, and I can't wait to see the incredible works that will be on display. It's a festival that truly celebrates the power of creativity and community.
